Borough of Haledon, NJ Chapter 136 Checks, Returned

§ 136-1 Service charge on returned checks.

There shall be a service charge of $20 levied by the Borough to the issuer of any check or other written instrument which has been delivered to the Borough as payment tendered on any account and subsequently returned for insufficient funds or other cause.

§ 136-2 Service charge on taxes and special assessments.

Whenever an account owing to the Borough is for a tax or special assessment, the service charge authorized by this chapter shall be included on any list of delinquent accounts for enforcement of the lien.

§ 136-3 Future payment requirements.

A. Whenever any person has issued to the Borough a check or other written instrument which has been returned for insufficient funds or other cause, the administrator of the department which was the recipient of that check is authorized to require future payments from the person who issued the document to be tendered in cash or by certified or cashier's check.

B. Any service charge authorized by this section shall be collected in the same manner prescribed by law for collection from the account from which the check or written instrument was tendered.
