The position of Environmental Officer for the Township of Hamilton is hereby established.[1]

The qualifications for the position of Environmental Officer shall be set by the Township Committee, but any applicant shall minimally have a basic knowledge of all federal, state, county, intermunicipal and municipal laws, regulations and policies relating to environmental issues affecting or potentially affecting the Township of Hamilton. The applicant shall be in sound physical health and able to conduct investigations and/or issue warnings and/or summonses pursuant to the Hamilton Township Environmental Ordinance[1] and such other ordinances with which said Environmental Officer may be assigned responsibility.

The Environmental Officer shall be appointed by the Township Committee of the Township of Hamilton.
The annual salary for the position of Environmental Officer shall be determined annually by the Township Committee of the Township of Hamilton and shall be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Annual Salary and Wage Ordinance of said township.[1]

The duties of the Environmental Officer shall include, by description but not limitation:
A. 
Administration and enforcement of the Hamilton Township Environmental Ordinance.[1]

B. 
The organization and administration of the Clean Communities Program.
C. 
The organization and administration of the mandatory recycling program, including but not limited to education and enforcement.
D. 
Participation in municipal events, fairs and other festivities where appropriate and where the community will be benefited.
E. 
Recognition of existing and potential environmental problems and remediation of those problems, including reference of those problems to the appropriate jurisdictional agency, should one exist.
F. 
Such other duties within the Environmental Officer's expertise as may be assigned from time to time by the Township Committee and/or Township Administrator.
