GENERAL REFERENCES

No person, firm or corporation shall post, paint or nail upon any electric light, telegraph or telephone pole, shade tree, post hold, fire hydrant, public building or any property belonging to the Village of Canton a sign or bill of any description without a written permit from the Village Clerk.
A. 
No billboard or other device for posting bills shall be erected in any street within the village.
B. 
No person, firm or corporation shall erect or maintain any billboard more than six feet in height without the permission of the Board of Trustees and the written consent of the owners or agent of the owners of all houses or lots within a distance of 200 feet from the place where the sign is to be erected.
A. 
No fence or other structure within the village shall be used as a billboard without permission from the Board of Trustees.
B. 
No person shall post any bill or sign on private property without the consent of the owner or agent of the same.
Any violation of this chapter shall constitute disorderly conduct and upon conviction shall be fined not less than $5 nor more than $50 per person for each violation and conviction. In default of payment of such fine the person or persons convicted shall be imprisoned in the St. Lawrence County Jail.
