Editor's Note: This article was originally
adopted by the Board of Selectmen 5-22-1974.
Pursuant to a program of conservation of natural
resources of the Town of Woodbridge, land of the former Estate of
G. Halsted Bishop was acquired by the Town. There were and there are
now situated on that land a dwelling house and barns once occupied
by Thomas Darling in colonial times. It was declared as a purpose,
among others, in the acquisition of said land that said house and
barns and appropriate adjoining yard areas be preserved as a public
historical site. This article shall establish responsibility for the
maintenance and preservation of the house as an historical site.
The Board of Selectmen shall maintain and preserve
the barns, home and area of land bounded: north, by other land taken
under open space provisions, 150 feet, more or less; south, by land
now or formerly of Godfrey O. Olsson and Susan S. Olsson, 627.47 feet,
more or less; east, by other land taken under open space provisions,
550 feet, more or less; and west, by Litchfield Turnpike, 500 feet
measured from the southwest corner of said property as the Thomas
Darling House to serve the public as a site as nearly as practicable
an historical duplicate of the said house and environs as it existed
in colonial times.
The Board of Selectmen shall be empowered to
delegate the authority to operate and maintain the Thomas Darling
House and its environs to such person or persons as it deems appropriate.
