The office of Assessor in and for the Township of Riverside, in the County of Burlington, shall be abolished as herein provided, and there shall be appointed a Board of Assessors of Taxes to appraise and value the property in such Township, but this article shall not become operative until the same shall have been approved by a majority of the legal voters voting thereon when this article shall be submitted for their approval at the next general election to be held in said Township after the passage of this article.
Upon the adoption of this article by the voters as aforesaid, the office of Assessor shall be abolished from and after June 30 next following; and the Board of Assessors shall be appointed to hold office for terms of office commencing on July 1 next succeeding the adoption of this article as hereinafter provided.
Said Board of Assessors of Taxes shall consist of three members who shall be residents and citizens of the Township and who shall be appointed by the Township Committee, and one of such members shall be designated by the Chairman of the Township Committee as Secretary. The members of the Board first appointed shall be appointed for terms of one, two and three years respectively, and thereafter the term of each member shall be three years. All vacancies shall be filled in the manner of the original appointments.
Said Board shall perform all the duties imposed by law upon Assessors in townships, and all assessments made by it shall be concurred in by a majority of its members. The assessment list and duplicate shall be verified by at least two members of the Board.
