This chapter regulates the residency for municipal employees pursuant to Chapter 63 of the Laws of 1978, an act concerning residency requirements for municipal and county employees, supplementing Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes and repealing N.J.S.A. 11:22-7 and N.J.S.A. 40A:9-1, which enabled counties and municipalities to require all officers and employees employed by the local unit to be bona fide residents of therein.
It is the desire of the Township of Riverside to give first preference to residents of Riverside Township when filling positions.
This chapter is hereby adopted to provide that all officers and employees, with the exception of the Township Attorney, the Township Engineer, the Township Auditor and professionals employed by any board or agency of the Township of Riverside and any officer or employee exempted by law, shall be bona fide residents of the Township of Riverside as set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:9-1.3.
If there are insufficient members of qualified applicants from the residents of the Township of Riverside, applicants shall be considered in the following manner:
A. 
Other residents of Burlington County.
B. 
Other residents of counties contiguous to Burlington County.
C. 
Other residents of the State of New Jersey.
