GENERAL REFERENCES
Police Department — See Ch. 44.
No person shall discharge any pistol, revolver or other firearm within the City of Somers Point, except as hereinafter provided.
The prohibition contained in § 139-1 shall not be applicable to any of the following persons, provided that the firearm is discharged in the course of their official duties or for a purpose permitted by the laws of the State of New Jersey:
A. 
Persons who have obtained a permit to carry a firearm pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 2C:58-3.[1]

B. 
Persons who are permitted to carry firearms pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2C:39-6; provided, however, that this exception shall only apply in those instances as specified in said statute.
C. 
Any employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation or any other enforcement agency of the United States government who is required, in the performance of his official duties, to carry firearms, while said employee is engaged in the actual performance of his official duties.
D. 
Any person keeping or carrying about his place of business, dwelling house or other lands or premises possessed by him any firearm, as permitted pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-6, provided that said firearm is discharged in lawful protection of himself or other persons or in lawful protection of his property or the property of other persons.
E. 
Any person discharging a firearm within a shooting gallery operated as an amusement under a mercantile license issued by the City of Somers Point, provided that said firearm is discharged under the supervision of the operator of the shooting gallery and in accordance with regulations governing said shooting gallery, approved by the Chief of Police of the City of Somers Point.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine not to exceed $1,000 or by imprisonment not to exceed 90 days or by a period of community service not to exceed 90 days, or any combination of the foregoing.
