The purpose and objective of this article is to recognize the Greenwood Hose Company No. 1, Inc., as the duly recognized volunteer fire department for the Borough of Moosic and to designate those duties and activities and ancillary activities and duties which the fire department desires to perform. These duties and activities are as follows:
A. 
The volunteer fire department recognized by the Borough of Moosic is authorized to actively engage in fire fighting within the boundaries of Moosic Borough and to respond to out-of-jurisdiction calls pursuant to authorization of a written mutual aid agreement or a written agreement for first call service or special calls on an individual basis.
B. 
A volunteer fire fighter may engage only in those acts which are recognized as fire-fighting activities. Such acts are limited to the following activities of a fire fighter while actually engaged as a fire fighter:
(1) 
The fire fighter's act of going to and returning from any fire, or report of fire, which the fire department of which they are a member shall have attended, or intended to attend;
(2) 
The fire fighter's participation in fire-fighting instruction and fire drills which the company of which they are a member shall attend;
(3) 
The fire fighter's participation in repair and other work on fire apparatus, buildings and grounds of the fire department or fire department which work is specifically authorized by the chief of the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc.; and
(4) 
The fire fighter's performance in responding to any emergency call for any purpose, or while riding upon the fire apparatus owned by the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc., of which they are a member.
C. 
A volunteer fire fighter may engage only in those acts which are recognized as emergency medical activities. Such acts are limited to the following activities of a fire fighter while actually engaged as a fire fighter:
(1) 
The fire fighter's act of going to and returning from any medical emergency, or report of medical emergency, which the fire department of which they are a member shall have attended, or intended to attend;
(2) 
The fire fighter's participation in emergency medical instruction and/or drills which the fire department of which they are a member shall attend;
(3) 
The fire fighter's participation in repair and/or other work on emergency medical apparatus, buildings and grounds of the fire department or fire department which work is specifically authorized by the chief of the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc.; and
(4) 
The fire fighter's performance in responding to any emergency call for any purpose, or while riding upon the emergency medical apparatus owned or used by the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc., of which they are a member.
D. 
A volunteer fire fighter may engage only in those acts which are required during natural and/or man-made disaster/storms/incidents to conduct public safety services.
E. 
Acts, duties and activities related to the police of the Greenwood Hose Company.
The Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc. may openly participate in certain ancillary activities and/or duties after obtaining the separate written or verbal approval of the governing body of each organization following official action by the governing body granting such approval. The following ancillary activities and/or duties are specifically embraced and authorized:
A. 
Training activities, including seminars and meetings.
B. 
Fund-raising activities.
C. 
Memorial services.
D. 
Participation in parades and fund-raising activities of another fire department(s) and/or ambulance corps and/or fire rescue.
E. 
Travel to and from any event or activity defined in Subsections A through D above.
F. 
Going to or from Greenwood and Hose Co. No. 1, Inc. sponsored social functions, such as, but not limited to, clambakes, picnics and installation banquets.
G. 
Regularly scheduled monthly meetings of the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc.
H. 
Committee meetings of the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc. as scheduled and/or announced.
I. 
Special meetings called by the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc., officers, directors or committee chairman.
The legislative intent of this article is to extend worker's compensation coverage to the members of the Greenwood Hose Co. No. 1, Inc., and official recognition of said fire company under the provision of the Political Subdivision Tort Act, 42 Pa.C.S.A. §§ 8541 to 8564.
