All gravity sewer mains shall be PVC gravity
sewer pipe conforming to standards set forth by the Borough's Engineering
Consultant(s), DEP, Army Corps of Engineers or EPA. The minimum depth
of a gravity sewer main shall be four feet measured from finished
grade to the top of the pipe.

All building sewers and underground pipes leading
to and inclusive of the building sewer shall be:

All building sewers shall be four inches in diameter
or greater. The Borough may require pipe that is larger if the building
contains multiple EDUs or uses water or discharges flow that exceeds
the capacity of pipe that is only four inches in diameter. The slope
or grade of a building sewer shall be no less than 1/4 inch per foot
of length sloping downward in the direction that the waste material
is to flow. The minimum depth of a building sewer shall be 24 inches
measured from finished grade to the top of the pipe.
All fittings shall be of the same material as
the pipe used in the construction. Any fitting or connection which
has an enlargement, chamber, or recess with a ledge, shoulder or reduction
of pipe area that offers an obstructed flow through the pipe is prohibited.
Connections between different types of pipe materials are prohibited.
Connections between different types of pipe materials shall be made
by adapter fittings or by means of an acceptable prefabricated sealing
ring or sleeve specifically approved by the plumbing inspector or
Engineer. Concrete mortar joints shall not be permitted.
Manholes and sewer mains shall be specified
by the Engineer, a designated and approved engineering firm as specified
by the Borough, or appropriate state or federal agency as deemed required
by the Borough.
Any sewer construction that will require excavation
on a street or trafficway shall be restored to original condition
and shall have pipe bedding installed consisting of predominantly
sand and gravel, Penn DOT type No. 1B crushed stone, or other material
approved by the Engineer. The surface shall be restored and maintained
for a period of 60 days to assure proper restoration.
Select backfill shall consist of Penn DOT Type
2B modified or other material approved by the Engineer. No other soils
shall be used.
All backfill shall be compacted as follows:

Bedding and select backfill shall be compacted in
lifts not exceeding four inches using approved compaction equipment
to 95% of maximum density.
B.
Compaction shall be required if construction is to
be at a point for connection where the connection of a building sewer
is to be at a lateral so as to prevent the trafficway surface in area
of the lateral to be damaged.
Each building sewer shall be equipped with a
test tee and riser as needed, located at a point no greater than 10
feet from the point where the building sewer enters the service lateral.
The building sewer must be provided with double
horizontal trap, known as an intercepting trap, no less than four
inches inside diameter, which shall be provided with vent and cleanout
openings, each of the latter brought to a height of at least the finished
grade level and there provided with flush type or mushroom type cap
vents. Lines and pipes from the trap to finished grade shall be of
the same size and of the same material as the trap, or as specified
for the main soil line.
Where determined necessary, the Borough may
require grease traps to intercept greasy wastes prior to such wastes
entering the Borough's main lines or laterals.
All sewer installations that require trench
depths exceeding four feet shall be started only when proper shoring
devices are on the property prior to construction commencing, and
that the shoring devices shall be used when depths aforementioned
are reached. OSHA standards shall be applied in all construction activities
and digging.
No person shall make any connection of roof
downspouts, exterior foundation drains, areaway drains, or other sources
of surface runoff or ground water to a building drain which, in turn,
is connected directly or indirectly to a public sanitary sewer.
Where a trench is in excess of 12 feet in depth,
the pipe to be used in construction shall be Schedule 80 PVC or equivalent.
Unless otherwise specified within this chapter,
the latest applicable BOCA codes shall be used in any construction
phase of new sewer installations.
Old building sewer lines may be used or connected
to when, upon inspection by the Borough, the old lines or pipes are
found to meet current Borough specifications.
The Borough shall halt construction of any sewer
line within the scope of the Borough's representation that presents
an immediate safely hazard or violation of this chapter.
