A Fire Department for the Borough of Wilson, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, is hereby established.
Said Fire Department shall consist of one person who shall be known as the "Chief" and such other paid firemen as Council shall from time to time deem necessary to properly man the fire apparatus and to protect the property and life of the inhabitants of the said Borough of Wilson, together with such volunteer fire companies as may accept the provisions of this chapter.
Subject to the Borough Council and the Fire Committee, the Chief shall have absolute control over all fire apparatus and is hereby given full power and authority to give all directions in the performance of his duty when called upon to perform the same.
All persons designated by Council as paid firemen, together with all volunteer firemen belonging to any volunteer fire company within the Borough which has accepted the provisions of this chapter, shall be under and subject to the control of said Fire Chief when actively engaged in fighting fires.

The salary of the Chief and paid firemen appointed by Council shall be as fixed by Council from time to time.

Editor's Note: Original Section 6, which provided for the appointment of the Chief of the Fire Department in the month of May for a three-year term and for the removal of the Chief or any paid fireman at any time at the will of Council, was deleted from this chapter upon instruction of Council.
The number of paid firemen shall be increased from time to time as the Borough Council shall deem necessary.
No persons shall have any access or control over any of the fire apparatus of the Borough of Wilson unless duly authorized by the Borough Council.
When equipment and supplies of any kind are necessary to the efficiency of the Fire Department of the Borough of Wilson, the same shall be reported by the Chief to the Borough Council, which may direct the purchase of the same.
The Fire Committee is hereby authorized to continue the establishment of the fire alarm system in the Borough of Wilson; to promulgate all rules and regulations necessary for the Fire Department, which shall only be effective upon approval by Council; and to number all plugs within the Borough of Wilson, said numbered plugs to be used in connection with the said fire alarm system.
All members of the Fire Department, before entering upon their duties, shall subscribe to an oath or affirmation that they and each of them will faithfully obey the Constitution and laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the ordinances of the Borough of Wilson and all laws, rules and regulations now in force or that may hereafter be adopted, and that they will faithfully perform all the duties as officers and firemen to the best of their ability.
