As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
FIREARM
Any launching device such as a gun, bow or crossbow which triggers the discharge of a projectile used for purposes of inflicting bodily harm.

A. 
No person shall discharge a gun or any firearm within the areas shown and marked with bold diagonal lines on the Official Hunting Map of the Township of Marlboro, dated May 31, 1995, to be amended and updated annually by the Township Engineer to include new schools, public recreational facilities, ballfields and lands which have obtained final site plan and or subdivision approval upon which site work has commenced. The Hunting Map, as amended, shall be approved by formal resolution of the Township Council. Copies of said map are on file in the offices of the Township Clerk and Township Engineer.
B. 
The careless, reckless or improper use of any firearm tending to imperil or cause danger or harm to personal security or endanger the property of any person within the Township of Marlboro is prohibited.
Section 177-2 of this chapter shall not be applicable to:
A. 
The discharge of any gun or firearm upon a licensed pistol, rifle or firearm range which is under the supervision of the Township Police Department;
B. 
Members of the Township Police Department or any law enforcement officer; or
C. 
The owner or lessee of a tract of land in excess of five acres, while on said tract, provided that said owners or lessees comply with all provisions of Title 23, Fish and Game, Wild Birds and Animals, of the New Jersey Revised Statutes, as amended, including but not limited to N.J.S.A. 23:4-16.

The Business Administrator shall arrange, not less than once each year, prior to the established hunting season to post appropriate signs on all major roads providing access to the Township advising the general public that there are zones within the Township of Marlboro where firearms cannot be discharged.

On or before September 1 of each year, the Township Administrator shall arrange for the posting of appropriate signs on all major roads which provide access to this Township advising the general public that there are zones within the Township of Marlboro where guns, weapons or firearms shall not be discharged or cast. Additionally, the Township Administrator shall prepare and arrange for distribution of copies of this chapter in any other appropriate manner so that any persons desiring to discharge firearms in this Township shall be made aware of this chapter and the state statute which it supplements.

Any person who is convicted of violating the provisions of this chapter shall be subject to the penalties in § 4-3 of the Code.
