This chapter shall be entitled "Local Law of 2007 of the Village of West Hampton Changing the Date of Village Elections from the Third Tuesday in March Until the Third Tuesday in June."
Pursuant to § 10 of the Municipal Home Rule Law, the New York State Constitution, the General Municipal Law and the Village Law of the State of New York, the Incorporated Village of West Hampton Dunes, County of Suffolk, and State of New York, hereby enacts by this chapter a local law of the Village of West Hampton Dunes.
The purpose and intent of this chapter is to change the date of Village elections from the third Tuesday in March until the third Tuesday in June beginning with the 2008 Village elections, in order to promote public participation and interest in general elections in the Village of West Hampton Dunes due to the fact that the Village is a seasonal Village.
Change of date from March until June: Commencing with the election following the adoption of this chapter, which is the 2008 Village election of the Village of West Hampton Dunes, the 2008 Village election and all future regular Village elections will be conducted on the third Tuesday of June rather than the third Tuesday of March.
Extension of terms of present elected Village officials. The terms of all of the present elected Village officials shall be extended from their present expiration date until noon of the first Monday of July following the present expiration date of each term, and thereafter the terms of all elected officials will begin and end at noon on the first Monday in July after the date of the election for that office.
