There is hereby established a Board of Trustees of the Free Public Library of the City of Hoboken, which Board shall be a body corporate as provided by law, under the name "Trustees of the Free Public Library of the City of Hoboken," and which Board shall have, exercise and perform all of the functions, powers and duties devolving by law upon the Boards of Trustees of Free Public Libraries of this state.

The Board shall consist of nine members: the Mayor, the Superintendent of Schools and seven citizens of the City of Hoboken to be appointed by the Mayor for the terms prescribed by law. They shall receive no compensation for their services. Upon expiration of the term of office of any Trustee, the Mayor shall appoint a citizen for a term of five years in the same manner as the original appointment was made. Vacancies occurring in the Board of Trustees hereby created shall be filled for the unexpired term only in the same manner as the original appointment was made. The Board shall organize and elect from its members a President, Treasurer and Secretary as required by law.
The Treasurer of the Board shall give bond for the faithful performance of his duties in such amount as shall be fixed by the Mayor as provided by law.
