Pursuant to C.G.S. § 9-185, the Board of Selectmen
shall have the authority and discretion to appoint Constables in lieu
of Constables to have been elected under C.G.S. § 9-200.
Each appointment shall be on terms satisfactory to the Board
of Selectmen, except that the period for which said Constables shall
be appointed shall not exceed that period for which said Constables
would have been eligible to serve if elected.
The purpose of this chapter is to confer upon the Board of Selectmen
the sole power to fill the office of Constable, and during the period
that this chapter is in effect, no Constable shall be elected.
