The term of office of the elective Town Clerk and the elective Superintendent of Highways of the Town of Stillwater shall be four years. Such four-year term shall commence on the first day of January following the first biennial Town election after the effective date of this article.
At the biennial Town election next following the effective date of this article, and every four years thereafter, the Town Clerk and Town Superintendent of Highways shall be elected each for a term of four years.
This article shall supersede in its application to the Town of Stillwater § 24 of the Town Law with respect to the term of office of the elective Town Clerk and elective Superintendent of Highways.
This article shall be submitted for approval to the electors of the Town of Stillwater at the next biennial Town election held not less than 60 days after its adoption.[1]

This article shall take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State after approval by a majority of the electors voting thereon in accordance with the requirements of § 23 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.

This article is adopted pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York.
The term of office of the elected Collector of Taxes shall be four years. Such four-year term shall commence as of the first day of January 2012 and shall apply to the person elected to such office at the biennial Town election to be held in November 2011 and to those elected thereafter, provided a proposition submitted pursuant to § 44-8 below is approved.
This article is adopted subject to a mandatory referendum and shall be submitted for approval of the qualified voters of the Town of Stillwater at the biennial election to be held in November 2011.[1] A proposition in the following form shall be included on the ballot at such biennial election, and the increased term of office shall not take effect unless such proposition is approved by a majority vote of the qualified voters voting thereon:
"Shall Resolution No. 80 of 2010 and Local Law No. 8 of 2010 entitled a 'Resolution/Local Law Increasing the Term of Office of Collector of Taxes from Two Years to Four Years' be approved?"
