(a) 
There is hereby recognized the existence of a Zoning Hearing Board, as created by Township Ordinance No. 342, pursuant to the provisions of the Municipalities Planning Code, Act No. 247 of 1968, as amended.
(b) 
The Zoning Hearing Board shall be comprised of five (5) members appointed by the Township Council. Their terms of office shall be five (5) years and shall be so fixed that the term of office of not more than one member shall expire each year. Council shall fill any vacancy for the unexpired term of a member who shall leave the Board for any reason. Members of the Zoning Hearing Board may be removed in accordance of Section 905 of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code. Council may appoint by resolution at least one but not more than three (3) residents of the Township to serve as alternate members of the Board. The term of office of an alternate member shall be three (3) years.
(c) 
The function of the Zoning Hearing Board shall include hearings and rulings on requests for special exceptions, variances, zoning appeals, and such other duties and responsibilities as prescribed by Article IX of Act 247 of 1968, the Municipalities Planning Code.
