For the purpose of this article, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning:
PORTABLE STORAGE UNIT
Any container designed for the outdoor storage of personal property which is typically rented to owners or occupants of a site for their temporary use and which is delivered and removed by vehicle. A portable storage unit shall not include a shed or an accessory structure or building, a dumpster or similar container.
SITE
A piece, parcel, tract or plot of land occupied or that may be occupied by one (1) or more buildings or uses and their accessory buildings and accessory uses which is generally considered to be one unified site.
USER
The owner or occupant of a site entering into an agreement with a portable storage unit company for the placement of a portable storage unit on a site located in the Township.

Portable storage units may be temporarily located upon single-family, multiple-family and nonresidential sites so long as they shall be placed not to obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic or block a driveway used for ingress or egress. On single-family and multiple-family sites, the portable storage unit shall be located at least six (6) feet from the side or rear property line; and, if the site has a driveway, at least ten (10) feet from the sidewalk (if present) or the edge of the street. On nonresidential sites, the location of the portable storage unit shall receive the prior written approval of the Fire Marshal. In no event shall a portable storage unit be placed on a public or private street.

The portable storage unit shall be no larger than one hundred thirty (130) square feet in area and no higher than ten (10) feet from grade.

(a) 
A portable storage unit may remain upon a single-family or multiple-family site for up to thirty (30) consecutive days at a time ("residential term") during a calendar year. Only one (1) portable storage unit shall be allowed at a site at a time. One (1) additional residential term shall be permitted, but such residential term shall be separated by at least sixty (60) consecutive days. If the portable storage unit is being continuously utilized in connection with a building construction or modification pursuant to a permit issued by the Township, then the duration may be extended for up to ninety (90) consecutive days, rather than thirty (30) days.
(b) 
A portable storage unit may remain upon a nonresidential site for up to sixty (60) consecutive days at a time ("nonresidential term") during a calendar year. Only one (1) portable storage unit shall be allowed at a site at a time. One (1) additional nonresidential term shall be permitted, but such nonresidential term shall be separated by at least sixty (60) consecutive days. If the portable storage unit is being continuously utilized in connection with a building construction or modification pursuant to a permit issued by the Township, then the duration may be extended for up to one hundred eighty (180) consecutive days, rather than sixty (60) days.
(c) 
Re-delivery of a portable storage unit for purposes of unloading shall be allowed for a period of five consecutive days for each residential or nonresidential term.

(a) 
The portable storage unit company shall be responsible to ensure that the portable storage unit is in good condition, free from evidence of deterioration, weathering, discoloration, rust, ripping, tearing or other holes or breaks.
(b) 
The portable storage unit shall be kept locked except when loading or unloading.
(c) 
The user of any site upon which a portable storage unit is placed shall also be responsible for ensuring that no hazardous substances or illegal substances or articles are stored or kept within the portable storage units.
(d) 
The portable storage unit shall only be used for storage incidental or accessory to the principal use on the same site. Portable storage units shall not be used for retail sales or any other principal or accessory use.
(e) 
Advertising on a portable storage unit shall be prohibited with the exception of the name and phone number of the vendor of the unit which may be displayed on two sides of the portable storage unit, but shall not exceed the following:
(1) 
For a twelve-foot long portable storage unit, the size of the logo shall not exceed seven (7) square feet.
(2) 
For a sixteen-foot long portable storage unit, the size of the logo shall not exceed twenty-eight (28) square feet.

The user of any site upon which a portable storage unit is placed shall, prior to the location of such portable storage unit upon the site, apply for and obtain a permit from the Township and pay all required permit fees, established from time to time by resolution by Plymouth Township Council.

A violation under this article shall be punishable as provided in Sec. 1-9(a) of this Code.[1]
