No motor vehicle, except as hereinafter provided, shall traverse any existing County road if such vehicle shall be a gross weight, including that of the vehicle, in excess of 36,000 pounds unless otherwise specifically posted by sign.

School buses transporting children to and from school and fire apparatus belonging to any municipal or volunteer fire department or used by such a department in the discharge of its functions shall be exempted from the requirements of this load limitation. In addition to the foregoing, an overweight vehicle operating on a designated County road pursuant to the terms, conditions and limits of a valid excess weight permit, issued pursuant to Article IV of Chapter 230, shall be exempted from the requirements of this load limitation.
Whoever violates the weight regulations set forth in § 230-1 shall be subject to the same fine as set forth in the fine schedule of KRS 189.990(2)(a).
