[HISTORY: Adopted by the Village Board of the Village of East Troy 4-3-2000 by Ord. No. 2000-2 as Title 7, Ch. 12, of the 2000 Code. Amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
No person shall engage in the business of carrying passengers for hire in a motor vehicle or hold himself/herself out so to do on or along the public streets of the Village of East Troy unless the operator thereof holds a license therefor.
B. 
This chapter shall not be applicable to vehicles operating upon established routes which are regulated by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin or vehicles operated solely as funeral cars or ambulances.
A. 
All applications for a license shall be made in writing and filed with the Village Clerk stating the full name of the applicant, his/her address, the make, model and serial number of the vehicle or vehicles he/she proposes to operate, and the state license numbers. Applications for renewal of existing licenses shall be made in the same manner as for the original license.

B. 
The license fee shall be set by the Village Board for each vehicle operated by the same licensee, and said fee shall accompany the application. The license year shall commence July 1 and end June 30. If less than six months remain of the license year, the license fee for each taxi shall be reduced by 1/2.

C. 
The Village Clerk shall present such application to the Village Board at its next regular meeting, and the Board shall consider such application and shall instruct the Village Clerk to issue the license or dismiss the application upon a majority vote of said Board.

No license shall be issued until the applicant files with the Village Clerk a policy of liability insurance covering all vehicles to be included under the license. Such policy shall be issued by a company licensed to do business in the state and shall insure the licensee against loss from liability to the amount of $1,000,000 for the injury or death of one person in any one accident and in the amount of $1,000,000 for damage to property of others for any one accident due to the negligent operation of such vehicle. The license shall automatically be revoked if a current insurance certificate is not on file with the Village.
