There is hereby established a Veterans Commission which shall
consist of twenty-four (24) members who shall be residents of the
City and a veteran of the armed services with at least one (1) member
being from each of the nine (9) wards. The members of the Veterans
Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the
City Council. The terms for each member shall be three (3) years,
except that the initial terms of twelve (12) of the members shall
be two (2) years while the initial terms of the remaining twelve (12)
members shall be three (3) years. Members shall serve until their
successors have been appointed and qualified.

It shall be the duties of the Veterans Commission to assist
families of persons currently serving in the United States armed services,
to coordinate efforts with the Veterans Administration of the State
of Missouri, to coordinate activities associated with patriotic events,
including but not limited to Memorial Day and July fourth (4th), to
provide education and leadership to the youth of the community regarding
past wars and conflicts, and such other duties that may be assigned
by the Mayor to promote and honor any and all people that have served
in the United States armed services.

The Veterans Commission shall elect its own Chairman and Vice
Chairman who shall serve one (1) year terms. The Veterans Commission
shall adopt from time to time such rules and regulations as it deems
necessary to carry into effect its responsibilities.
