The Chief Executive Officer of the Village shall be the Chairman, who shall be elected by a majority of the Board of Trustees and shall hold office for two (2) years.

The Chairman shall be active and vigilant in enforcing all laws and this Code or other ordinances for the government of the Village, and he/she shall cause all subordinate officers to be dealt with promptly for any neglect or violation of duty.

The Chairman shall have a seat in and preside over the Board of Trustees and shall vote on any question. He/she shall exercise a general supervision over all the officers and affairs of the Village and shall take care that this Code or other ordinances of the Village and the State laws relating to such Village are complied with.

The Chairman shall from time to time communicate to the Board of Trustees such measures as may, in his/her opinion, tend to the improvement of finances, the Police, health, security, ornament, comfort and general prosperity of the Village.

The Chairman may be removed from office for persistent neglect or refusal to discharge the duties of her/his office by a majority of the other members of the Board. Chairman Pro Tem shall officiate at this meeting.

A. 
In times of impending natural disaster, or, upon the occurrence of such an event, the Chairman or, in his absence, the Chairman Pro Tem, of the Board of Trustees shall have the authority:
1. 
At times of natural disaster and upon recommendation of the Jasper County Sheriff to close streets and roads to public use.
2. 
To cooperate with local, State, and Federal authorities to protect life or property.
B. 
The Chairman shall call an emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees upon declaration of a natural emergency to review the conditions of such emergency declaration.
