There is hereby created an office within the Department of Administration to be known as the "Office of Public Safety." Said office shall have the responsibility for coordinating administration of emergency medical service, fire services, and emergency management; provide all computer, telephone, and radio support services within the Borough; mitigate the results and render aid in the case of a disaster or accident; and coordinate the Emergency Operations Center with other Borough operations.
The Borough Emergency Management Agency is under the direction and control of the Mayor, pursuant to Chapter 16 of the Borough of Middletown Code of Ordinances.
A. 
The Borough may maintain the position of Administrative Assistant for Public Safety, who shall report to the Borough Manager of the Borough of Middletown. The Administrative Assistant shall serve at the discretion of the Borough Manager.
B. 
Duties of the Administrative Assistant shall be:
(1) 
To assist the Borough Manager with proper management of the Fire Department operating budget, including but not limited to assisting the Borough Manager and Fire Chiefs with Fire Department procurement and Fire Department grants; and
(2) 
To assist the Borough Manager with proper management of contracts related to the provision of emergency medical service; and
(3) 
To assist with management of the Emergency Operations Center; and
(4) 
To assist with contracts related to computers, telephones, and radios; and
(5) 
To assist with coordination between the fire police, the Police Department, and the Director of the Emergency Management Agency.
C. 
The Borough Council may, from time to time, set compensation for this position.
