A Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP) is herewith created in accordance with Chapter 388 of the Laws of 1997[1] to reward members of the Egg Harbor Township Fire Department and the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad, all of who are volunteer firefighters and/or ambulance squad members, for their loyal, diligent, and devoted services to the residents of the Township of Egg Harbor.

The LOSAP shall provide for fixed annual contributions to a deferred-income account for each volunteer member that meets the criteria set forth in Schedule A;[1] that such contributions shall be made in accordance with a plan that shall be established by the Township of Egg Harbor pursuant to P.L. 1997, c. 388 and that such plan shall be administered in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey, the United States Internal Revenue Code, and this chapter.
The LOSAP shall provide for annual contributions to each eligible member that meets the criteria as follows:
A. 
Required points.
(1) 
Volunteer Fire Company members are required to earn 100 points for a member to be eligible for an annual contribution (see Schedule A[1]).
(2) 
Volunteer Ambulance Squad members are required to earn 250 points for a member to be eligible for an annual contribution (See Schedule A[2]).
B. 
Five years of service are required for vesting.
C. 
The annual contribution shall be $1,150 per eligible member. The annual contribution may be adjusted in accordance with the changes in the consumer price index.

The LOSAP shall provide credit for prior service for vesting purposes only for no more than 10 years of prior service for each current eligible member who was considered as an active and in good-standing member for the corresponding prior year of eligibility. Effective January 1, 2006, a member meeting the prior service credit criteria for the corresponding year shown in the chart below shall be eligible for points creditable towards current year requirements.

Each active volunteer member shall be credited with points for volunteer services provided to the Volunteer Fire Company and Ambulance Squad in accordance with the following schedule (See Schedule A[1]).
This chapter shall not take effect unless it is approved by voters as a public question at the next general election.[1]
