GENERAL REFERENCES
Police Department — See Ch. 39.
No alcoholic beverage shall be consumed on Township property during a normal Township working day.
Members of the Police Department and employees of the Township shall not consume intoxicants while off work to the extent that evidence of such consumption is apparent when reporting for work or to the extent that ability to perform work is impaired.
Members of the Police Department and employees of the Township shall not at any time be intoxicated while at work. They shall not at any time, on or off work, be intoxicated in public view.
A. 
Members of the Police Department and employees of the Township shall not bring into or keep any intoxicating liquor on Township premises except:
(1) 
When necessary in the performance of police work.
(2) 
Packaged goods for temporary storage in locker spaces when the seals are broken.
B. 
Liquor brought into Departmental premises in the furtherance of a police task shall be properly identified and stored according to current policy.
Drug and alcohol use is highly detrimental to the safety and productivity of members of the Police Department and employees of the Township in the workplace. No member of the Police Department or employee of the Township may be under the influence of any illicit drug or alcohol while in the workplace, while on duty or while operating a vehicle or equipment owned or leased by the employer.

The manufacture, possession, distribution, transfer, purchase, sale, use or being under the influence of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs proscribed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania while on employer's property, while attending business-related activities, while on duty or while operating a vehicle or machine leased or owned by the employer is prohibited as set forth above and may lead to disciplinary action, including suspension without pay or discharge.
A. 
When appropriate, the employer may refer the employees to approved counseling or rehabilitation programs. Employees may use physician-prescribed medications, provided that the use of such drugs does not adversely affect job performance or the safety of the employee or other individuals in the workplace.
B. 
The employer recognizes that employees may wish to seek professional assistance in overcoming drug or alcohol problems. Please contact your supervisor for more information about the benefits potentially available under the employee medical benefits plans and any possible referral sources.
