The City shall install water meters in all properties within the City in a pit area outside the premises as near as possible to the curbline. Intended installation of water meter services shall be acknowledged by the owner or owners of the property or person or persons acting as their agent, receiver or trustee before actual installation occurs. All water taps made and all use of water within Ventnor City shall be through water meters. The property owner shall be responsible for any connection fees or other fees associated with the installation of the water meter or meters.
If the City Plumbing Subcode Official, Water/Sewer Superintendent or the contractor employed by the City to install the water meters determines that the present piping on any premises within the City is unsuitable, improper or inadequate for the installation of said meters, the owner or owners of said premises, or their agents acting on their behalf, shall be required to have a plumber realign or rearrange said piping so as to provide a satisfactory location for the meter within 60 days from the date of final notice. Notice shall be in writing and shall be forwarded to the owner or owners of the particular premises, or to their agents acting on their behalf, by regular mail. The expense of said rearrangements shall be borne by the owner of the particular premises.
Should realignment or rearrangement of the piping become necessary pursuant to § 220-7 of this article, said piping shall be located in a pit area as near as possible to the curbline, with sufficient clearance to permit the installation of the meter. Before making such rearrangement, approval must be obtained from the Water/Sewer Superintendent and the City Plumbing Subcode Official.
All new meters are required to be installed in a pit area outside the premises as near as possible to the curbline. In the event that a pit installation would be fiscally prohibitive or is otherwise unfeasible, which determination shall be made jointly by the City Plumbing Subcode Official and Water/Sewer Superintendent, the meter will be required to be installed in a suitable location within the property as determined by said City officials.
