[Adopted 6-7-1982 by Ord. No. 11-1982 as Art. V of Ch. 188 of the 1982 Code]
No automobile mechanic, keeper or owner or lessee of a garage or any other person shall repair, service or overhaul any automobile, truck or motor vehicle of any description upon any of the public highways, streets or alleys of the city, except as provided in § 255-36 of this article.
Where an automobile, truck or motor vehicle has failed in operation upon a public highway, street or alley, emergency repairs necessary to place said vehicle in operation may be made upon said highway, provided that said emergency repairs shall be completed in less than 60 minutes and a permit therefor shall be obtained from the Chief of Police, or the Captain or Sergeant in charge of the Police Department, who is hereby given authority to grant or refuse said permit in his discretion.
Any person who violates any provision of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $1,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 90 days and/or a period of community service not exceeding 90 days.
