The Town Board of the Town of Riga does hereby ordain and enact the
Town of Riga authority to establish advisory committees law pursuant to the
authority and provisions of § 10, Subdivision 1(i), of the Municipal
Home Rule Law.
This chapter shall be known as the "Town of Riga Advisory Committee
Authorization Law."
The purpose is:
A.Â
To provide a mechanism to encourage community involvement
by providing a forum for community members to become involved in addressing
issues and concerns regarding matters affecting the Town and its residents;
B.Â
To promote open government and participation by members
of the community;
C.Â
To assist elected officials in reaching out to the community,
gathering input and information needed by the governing board to make informed
decisions;
D.Â
To allow members of the community with special skills
and experience to contribute to the community by serving in an advisory capacity.
The Town Board of the Town of Riga shall have the authority to establish
such advisory committees, as it deems necessary and appropriate, and with
such powers as are consistent with the provisions of applicable New York State
law and as it deems appropriate for a particular committee to enhance the
providing of governmental services to residents of Riga.
