This group shall be called the South Berwick Recreation Committee.
The objective of the Committee is to work in cooperation with the Town
Manager and other organizations dealing with recreation in order to plan and
implement leisure-time programs and facilities for all the residents of South
Berwick.

The Committee shall consist of seven members appointed
by the Town Council.
B.Â
The term of office of each member will be determined
by the Council.
C.Â
In the event of resignation of any Committee member or
his/her death or inability to serve, the Town Council shall fill the vacancy
until the unexpired term ends. The Recreation Committee will turn over to
the Council the names of any members missing two or more regular consecutive
meetings without acceptable reasons. The Recreation Committee will contact
the member involved before this action is taken.

Regular meetings shall be held the first and third Tuesday
of each month during the year.

Special meetings shall be called by the Chairman or upon
request of at least two members.

Meetings shall convene at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise
ordered.

The regular meeting held in July of each year shall be
known as the "organizational meeting." The purpose of this meeting shall be
the election and installation of officers, namely the Chairman and the Secretary
and other business that may need to come before such meeting.

The meetings held in January of each year shall be for
the approval of the budget for the coming fiscal year and for other business
that may need to come before such meeting.

Half plus one of the present Committee members constitutes
a quorum at any regular or special meetings.

The officers of this Committee shall be a Chairman and
a Secretary, who shall be elected at the organizational meeting in July to
serve for one year or until a successor shall be elected and qualified.

These officers shall constitute an executive board, which
shall act in emergencies. This executive board shall meet at any time and
place deemed necessary by either officer.

The Chairman shall preside at all meetings of the Committee,
appoint all committees, represent the Committee at public affairs and shall
maintain the dignity and efficiency of the Committee in all possible ways.

The Secretary shall keep a record of the proceedings
of the Committee. He or she shall read all official communications to the
Committee, write correspondence as directed and keep on file all important
letters and replies.
All officers shall be elected by nominations having been made from the
floor. A majority vote of those present shall constitute an election.
It shall be the duty of each member of the Committee to take an active
part in the direction of the Committee's activities and to act in whatever
capacity he or she may be called and to be loyal in thought and deed to the
welfare of the recreation and the community which it seeks to serve. All members
shall serve without remuneration. Any member is privileged to make at any
time an inspection of recreation functions and equipment and to bring a report
to the Committee.
Special committees shall be appointed by order of the Recreation Committee
as needs may arise. Such committees shall not necessarily be restricted to
members of the Committee.
These bylaws may be amended at any regular or special meeting by a majority
vote of those present and voting, provided that notice of the proposed amendment
has been given, in writing, to all Committee members at least seven days prior
to said meeting.
