There is hereby created the office of Deputy Clerk of the Township of Kingwood, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135, with such powers, duties and functions, compensation and term of office as are provided herein.

A. 
The Deputy Township Clerk, if such person is certified as a Registered Municipal Clerk by the State of New Jersey, shall be appointed by the governing body to a term of office of three years. Otherwise, such person shall be appointed for a one-year term. The person so appointed to the position of Deputy Municipal Clerk shall acquire no tenure in the office of Deputy Municipal Clerk or Municipal Clerk.
B. 
A person who is currently serving an appointment as Deputy Municipal Clerk, upon receipt of his or her certification by the State of New Jersey as a Registered Municipal Clerk can be recognized for such certification and immediately be appointed by the governing body for a three-year term of office as Deputy Municipal Clerk and commencing immediately as of the date of such appointment.
The Deputy Clerk shall be paid a salary at an annual rate as set forth in the current Salary Ordinance of the Township of Kingwood and shall be subject to all other applicable provisions of said Salary Ordinance as to holidays, sick leave and other benefits.[1]

A. 
The Deputy Clerk shall assist the Clerk of Kingwood Township in his regular functions and shall perform such duties as directed by the Clerk and the governing body of the Township of Kingwood.
B. 
During the absence or disability of the Township Clerk, the Deputy Clerk shall have all the powers of the Township Clerk and shall perform all the functions and duties of such office.
