There is hereby created a Department of Tax Assessments.
A. 
The head of the Department of Tax Assessments shall be the Tax Assessor. The Tax Assessor shall:
(1) 
Establish the assessments for the Township in accordance with applicable law.
(2) 
Supervise the work of the Department and its employees.
(3) 
Perform such other duties as shall be prescribed by law.
B. 
The Tax Assessor shall be appointed by the Township Council for a term of four years to commence on the first day of July next following his appointment as provided by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-148. The person appointed as Tax Assessor shall possess the necessary qualifications and certificates and education for said position as required by law. The Tax Assessor shall serve in said office until his successor is appointed and qualified. In the event of a vacancy in the office of the Tax Assessor, the Township Council shall fill the vacancy for the unexpired term. The Assessor shall receive such compensation as shall be prescribed by ordinance.[1]

C. 
There shall also be such additional appraisers and assessment clerks or deputy and assistant assessors as may be appointed by the Township Manager from time to time and who shall serve under the direction and supervision of the Tax Assessor.
