All children who are of public school age, who
attend schools in Talbot County which do not receive state aid and
who reside on or along or near the public highways of Talbot County,
on which there is operated a public school bus or conveyance provided
by the Board of Education of Talbot County for transporting children
to and from the public schools of Talbot County, shall receive, subject
to the approval of the County Council, transportation on such buses
or conveyances. Such transportation, upon the approval of the County
Council, shall be provided for them by the Board of Education of Talbot
County from a point on the said public highway nearest or most accessible
to their respective homes to a point on the public highway nearest
or most accessible to their respective schools.
This transportation, subject to the approval
of the County Council, shall be provided by the Board of Education
as aforesaid, for all the children attending schools described herein,
upon the same terms and conditions established by the Board of Education
of Talbot County for children attending public schools, provided that
the County Council of Talbot County shall make such provisions in
its budget by appropriate tax levy as will be necessary to defray
the cost of such transportation, which authority is hereby granted
to said Council so that it may, in its discretion, provide such transportation
as is herein authorized.
