A Junior Fire Fighter's Auxiliary is hereby established.
Only those persons between the ages of 16 and 17 may be considered for membership.
Applicants must complete the required applications and must obtain the written consent of their parent or legal guardian. Applicants and their parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver and release holding the Borough of Haledon harmless for any damages and/or injuries as a result of any actions not authorized by this article.
Applicants must pass a physical examination to establish their physical capability to perform the duties of a junior fire fighter. Physical examinations will be reimbursed by the Borough of Haledon up to $50.
Applicants must be interviewed by the line officers, with their parent and/or legal guardian present.
All junior fire fighters must comply with the following rules:
A. 
They must observe all rules and bylaws of the Fire Department and fire company and must demonstrate an active interest in the fire company and its functions. Junior fire fighters will be required to observe the instructions and directions of the officers and members of the Fire Department and such instructions and directions shall be limited to the duties and responsibilities contained in this article.
B. 
Junior fire fighters will not deliberately and or willfully misuse, abuse, damage or destroy Fire Department equipment or property.
C. 
The school grades of junior fire fighters will be monitored, and if the junior fire fighter's grade average falls below a "C", said junior fire fighter will be suspended or restricted from fire fighting and/or the firehouse until such time as the junior fire fighter can show sufficient evidence that his or her grades have improved.
D. 
No junior fire fighter may be in the firehouse unless a member of the Fire Department is present.
E. 
A curfew of 11:00 p.m. will be observed at all times, with the exception of approved Fire Department functions. Junior fire fighters may not leave school to attend any fires or Fire Department functions.
F. 
Junior fire fighters shall not be permitted to use blue lights.
A. 
Junior fire fighters are required to participate in training that does not involve fire, smoke, toxic or noxious gas or hazardous materials or substances and may not participate in training that does involve fire, smoke, toxic or noxious gas or hazardous materials or substances.
B. 
Junior fire fighters are required to observe fire fighters' activities while under supervision but may not participate in the fire fighter activities.
At all times the rules and regulations set by the New Jersey Department of Labor as they pertain to children will be applicable. In addition, the activities of the junior fire fighters are limited by N.J.S.A. 40A:14-98. In addition, junior fire fighters will not be allowed to perform duties which would expose them to the same degree of life hazard as a regular member of the Fire Department. Safety regulations include, but are not limited to, the following:
A. 
Junior fire fighters will not enter any burning or unstable structure.
B. 
Junior fire fighters will always be seated in a secure position when riding on any fire apparatus.
C. 
Junior fire fighters will be issued "turn-out" gear. This equipment must be used at all fire calls and drills as necessary.
D. 
Junior fire fighters shall not be permitted to operate motorized power equipment such as the Jaws of Life, chain saws, vent saws, and so forth.
E. 
Junior fire fighters may not participate in any fire fighter activities and may only observe fire fighters' activities while under supervision.
Membership in the Haledon Junior Fire Fighter's Auxiliary shall not and does not guarantee or constitute membership in the Fire Department of the Borough of Haledon.
Members of the Haledon Junior Fire Fighter's Auxiliary shall be covered by the same insurance as members of the Fire Department.
