A.
The Manager may, from time to time, appoint such special
police as he may deem necessary for the preservation of peace and
good order of the Township.
B.
Applications for appointment as special police shall
be in writing to the Chief of Police setting forth the nature and
the place of special duty to be performed, as well as the hours of
special duty. The applications shall be accompanied by letters of
recommendation from the employers of the applicants.
C.
All applicants for such appointment shall appear personally
before the Chief of Police.
D.
Upon investigation and report as to their qualifications
by the Chief of Police, the Manager may make the appointments of special
police.
E.
All appointments shall expire on December 31 of the
year in which the same are made.
A.
Special police appointed pursuant to this article
shall be vested with special police authority in accordance with the
regulations set forth below.
B.
All special police appointments shall be limited to
those persons whose employment as guards, watchmen, janitors, special
traffic officers, or some such similar position of responsibility,
shall warrant the granting to them of special police authority.
C.
The police authority of special police shall be limited
to that specifically granted to such special police by the Manager
at the time of appointment.
All special police shall not be considered members
of the Division of Police, nor shall they or their dependents participate
in or be entitled to pensions from the pension fund now established
or which may hereafter be established.
Each special policeman may be furnished with
a badge upon the deposit with the Township of a sum fixed by the Chief
of Police, which sum shall be refunded upon the return of the badge.
