The following words and terms shall, for the purposes of this chapter and as used elsewhere in this code, have the meanings shown herein.
POOLS, SWIMMING; HOT TUBS; and SPAS
A. 
ABOVE-GROUND/ON-GROUND POOLSee definition of private swimming pool.
B. 
BARRIERA fence, a wall, a building wall or a combination thereof which completely surrounds the swimming pool and obstructs access to the swimming pool.
C. 
HOT TUBSee definition of private swimming pool.
D. 
IN-GROUND POOLSee definition of private swimming pool.
E. 
PRIVATE SWIMMING POOLAny structure that contains water over 24 inches (610 millimeters) in depth and which is used, or intended to be used, for swimming or recreational bathing in connection with an occupancy in Use Group R-3 or R-5 and which is available only to the family and guests of the householder. This includes in-ground, aboveground and on-ground swimming pools, hot tubs and spas.

F. 
PRIVATE SWIMMING POOL, INDOORAny private swimming pool that is totally contained within a private structure and surrounded on all four sides by walls of said structure.
G. 
PRIVATE SWIMMING POOL, OUTDOORAny private swimming pool that is not an indoor pool.
H. 
PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLAny swimming pool other than a private swimming pool.

All pools and pool barriers, private and public, shall be constructed and maintained in accordance with the requirements of the most recent Pool and Spa Code as adopted by the Uniform Construction Code.[1]
