Except where otherwise indicated by context, the following definitions shall apply in the interpretation and enforcement of this chapter:
BUSINESS
Any corporation, partnership, limited liability company, firm, enterprise, franchise, association, trust, sole proprietorship, union or other legal entity.
ENGAGING IN BUSINESS
Operating, conducting, doing, carrying on, causing to be carried on, or pursuing any business, profession, occupation, trade, pursuit or activity, for the purpose of profit.
INITIAL REGISTRATION PERIOD
The initial twelve-month period subsequent to the effective date of this chapter during which the Township shall prorate the business registration fee by monthly increments to achieve an annual registration regimen based upon a calendar year.
A. 
Any business engaging in business within the Township of Mount Holly shall annually register with the Township on the form provided by the Township and pay the fee for such registration as set forth in this chapter. This registration requirement applies to any person or business engaged in or proposing to engage in business within the municipal limits of the Township.
B. 
No person or business shall, directly or indirectly, engage in any business, trade, profession, or occupation in which the person's business premises are located within the Township, unless such person first registers each business premises.
Every person or business subject to this chapter shall submit a business registration application to the Township Economic Development Director on the application form provided by the Township. The business registration application form shall provide the following information:
A. 
Business name, business owner name, form of ownership, business address, and business phone number. In addition, an emergency contact name, address and telephone number of person(s) to contact in case of emergency shall also be provided.
B. 
Security information regarding the presence of any burglar alarm systems, night watchmen or private security guards, security guard dogs, and a schedule of normal business hours.
C. 
Firesafety information regarding the presence of any fire alarm, the presence of any roof entry point, the presence of any smoke detection system, the presence of any standpipe, the presence of any sprinkler system.
D. 
Business use information, including a general statement of the type of business operated at the registered location, sales tax number or tax identification number, and a statement as to whether hazardous or flammable substances are maintained at the premises in other than de minimus quantities.

A. 
There is on each place of business in this Township a business registration fee of $25 per calendar year. Any person proposing to do business within the limits of this Township shall apply for and pay the fee for each outlet, branch or location within the Township limits prior to engaging in business. The renewal business registration period shall be from January through December. Such fees shall not be prorated nor any part thereof refunded for any reason.
B. 
Each place of business in the Township shall have the option of renewing its business registration for one year at $25 or for three years at $75 per calendar year.
Upon the filing of a complete application and payment of the requisite fee, the Township Office of Economic Development shall issue an emblem, decal, or certificate evidencing registration for the applicable year which shall be displayed in or on the front door or a window of the main facade of the business location.
In the event that emergency contact or other information should change during the course of a year, the business owner shall promptly notify the Economic Development Director, in writing, of the new or changed information. However, no additional fee shall be charged for filing updated information.
Registration information shall be maintained in the office of the Township Director of Economic Development. Emergency contact information shall be made available to and shared with the Township Police, Township Fire Department, and Township Emergency Services.
No business registration fee shall be imposed on any business which is operated as a not-for-profit entity or otherwise exempted by law, provided that satisfactory proof of such status is provided to the Township. A business registration application must be completed by any person engaging in or proposing to engage in business within the limits of the Township even if the business registration fee is exempted.

For each business location that fails to register within 15 days of opening or, for renewals, by the 15th of January of each calendar year, a late registration fee shall be imposed in addition to the regular registration fee. The late registration fee shall be in the amount of $15 for each thirty-day period that the business fails to register beyond the initial fifteen-day grace period.
Any person or entity found guilty of violating any of the provisions of this chapter or who fails to comply with any of its requirements shall be subject to a penalty of $75 for a first offense and a penalty not to exceed $200 for any subsequent offenses.
