GENERAL REFERENCES
Appointment of officers and employees — See Ch. 65, Art. I.
This chapter shall prescribe the method of selection and hiring of police officers for the Village of New Haven and the qualification for the office of Police Chief and police officers.
Applications for the office of Police Chief and police officers shall be presented to the Police Board of the Village of New Haven, in writing, stating the following:
A. 
The educational background of the applicant.
B. 
The experience and training of the applicant.
C. 
The age, length of residence in the Village of New Haven, and a physical examination by a qualified medical doctor certifying that the applicant is in good health and able to perform the duties required of a police officer and Police Chief.
D. 
That the applicant is a resident of the Village of New Haven or that he will be upon the acceptance of the position. This requirement may be waived by majority vote of the Village Council elect.

The Police Board shall consider the application and investigate the applicant to ensure that the qualifications and requirements prescribed herein are met by the applicant.
A. 
The Police Board shall recommend to the President of the Village of New Haven an applicant for said position of Police Chief; and the President, with the approval of the Village Council by a majority vote of a quorum present and voting; shall appoint an applicant to said position.
B. 
The Police Board shall recommend to the Council of the Village of New Haven applicants for the position of police officer; and the Council, by a majority voting, shall appoint applicants to said positions.
A. 
The position of police officer or Police Chief shall be filled upon resignation or death in the manner prescribed herein.
B. 
Said police officer or Police Chief may be removed at any time by the President with the approval of the Council, a majority vote of those present and voting, after a hearing is held by the Police Board and recommendation is made by the Police Board to the Village Council.
C. 
An officer against whom disciplinary action is taken shall be given a public hearing with at least one week's notice of the date of the hearing.
