[HISTORY: RR Chapter 12 of the 1967 Code. Amendments noted where
applicable.]
A.Â
The closing of schools due to emergency, snow or other
causes is broadcast over Salem radio station WESX and Boston radio station
WBZ. The information may also be obtained by calling 631-0362, a number designated
solely for this purpose. Please do not call the Fire or Police Department
for "no school" announcements. Such calls tie up the telephone lines unnecessarily.
B.Â
Since conditions in the various parts of Marblehead may
vary, parents are requested to exercise their discretion in regard to their
own children.
A.Â
Three- and four-year-old screening. An early identification
and screening program is held for children who may have substantial special
needs as provided under Chapter 766 and PL 94-142.
B.Â
Kindergarten entrance. The minimum age for entering kindergarten
shall be five years on or before December 31 of the year a child enters school.
C.Â
Birth certificates and medical records. A birth certificate
is required by law at the time of registration. In addition, each student
must have proof of a physical examination signed by a physician and must also
have a measles, DPT (diptheria, pertussis and tetanus), and polio immunization
certificate upon entering school. Certain medical and religious exemptions
are permitted by law.
The school year for all schools must consist of not less than 180 school
days as required by state law.
