It is the purpose of this chapter to establish an effective and easily recognizable system for the exact location of the houses in the Town by emergency vehicles, such as, but not limited to, police, fire and ambulance services.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
BUILDING UNIT
Any building used for residential or commercial purposes and any other building or structure which may be occupied at any time by any person or persons.
BUILDING UNIT NUMBER
A number of no less than three inches in height placed on the building, mailbox, fence or a post, so as to make said number easily readable from the street. When a mailbox is on the curbline of said property, numbered in accordance herewith, the building number shall be placed on both sides of the box and shall have numbers at least three inches high.
The Town of Woodbridge Assessor shall assign to each building unit a number or numbers by which it shall be known. It shall be the duty of the owner of a building unit to ascertain the proper building unit number from the Town of Woodbridge Assessing Office and to display same as defined in the definition of "building unit number" in § 188-2 of this chapter. Whenever the Assessor, acting in accordance with this chapter, has renumbered any building unit, he shall send promptly to the owner a written statement and notice informing him of the renumbering and directing the owner to affix to the premises numerals indicating the new number thereto assigned. It shall be the duty of the owner or owners to affix said numerals within 30 days after the sending of the notice.
It shall be the responsibility of the Police Chief to enforce provisions of this chapter using the citation hearing procedure.[1]

Any person, firm or corporation who violates the provisions of this chapter shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $25 payable to the Town. Each ninety-day period of noncompliance shall be considered a separate violation. Each building unit without numbers shall be considered a separate violation.
