The purpose of this article is to increase the term of the elected office
of the Supervisor of the Town of Clarence, Erie County, New York, to four
years.
The term of office of the elected Town Supervisor of the Town of Clarence shall be four years. Such four-year term shall commence as of the first day of January 2004 and shall apply to the person elected to such office at the biennial election held in November of 2003, and to those elected to the office of Supervisor of the Town of Clarence thereafter, provided that a proposition submitted pursuant to § 50-3 below is approved.
This article is adopted subject to a mandatory referendum and shall
be submitted for approval to the qualified voters of the Town of Clarence
at a general election to be held not less than 60 days after the adoption
of this article, the date for which said general election has been set for
November 5, 2002. A proposition in the following form shall be included on
the ballot at such general Town election, and the increased term of office
shall not take effect unless such proposition is approved by majority vote
of the qualified voters voting thereon:

Shall a local law entitled: "Increasing the Term of the Elected Office
of the Supervisor of the Town of Clarence, Erie County, New York, from Two
Years to Four Years Effective January 2004," be approved?

Editor's Note: At a general election held 11-5-2002, a majority of
the qualified voters voting on this local law approved it.
This article is adopted pursuant to the provisions of the Municipal
Home Rule Law and the Town Law of the State of New York.
This article shall supersede Town Law § 24 relating to the
term of office of the Town Supervisor of the Town of Clarence.
