The purpose of this chapter is to establish residency requirements for the office of the Village Justice. The Village Board deems the establishment of residency requirements for the Village Justice to be necessary to effectuate efficient control over the operation of the Village Justice Court.
In addition to any other legal requirements or prohibitions, no person shall be eligible to be elected or appointed as Village Justice, and no person, if elected or appointed to such office, shall be eligible to continue to serve therein, who is not a citizen of the United States of America, at least 18 years of age and a resident of the village or a resident of Suffolk County.
