In multiple dwellings:
A.
At least one smoke detector shall be provided adjacent to each sleeping
area, such smoke detector to be located on or near the ceiling. Alarms
must be clearly audible in adjacent sleeping spaces with intervening
doors closed. Detectors required by this chapter shall be capable
of being tested by the occupant of the individual apartment or dwelling
unit.
B.
All common passageways shall be equipped with at least one smoke
detector per floor or per smoke zone as approved by the Code Enforcement
Officer. Such smoke detectors shall be interconnected with all other
detectors in common passageways.
C.
All smoke detectors shall be directly connected to the lighting circuit
of the dwelling unit or sleeping room where the device is located,
with no intervening wall switch. Cord-connected installations shall
not be permitted.
In one- and two-family dwellings.
A.
Smoke detectors shall be installed outside of each separate sleeping
area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional
story of the dwelling unit, including basements and excluding crawl
spaces and unfinished attics.
B.
All smoke detectors shall be directly connected to the lighting circuit
of the dwelling unit or sleeping room where the device is located,
with no intervening wall switch. Cord-connected installations shall
not be permitted.
A.
In certain areas where conditions may cause excessive false alarms,
heat detectors may be substituted for smoke detectors with the approval
of the Code Enforcement Officer.
B.
In certain areas where installations of smoke or heat detectors to
the wiring system is impractical, battery-operated smoke or heat detectors
may be substituted with the approval of the Code Enforcement Officer.
Battery-operated detectors shall have a separate and distinct trouble
signal when the battery voltage is low.
The Code Enforcement Officer, the Fire Chief of the Village
of Liverpool or any fire inspector is authorized to inspect any building
or premises designated in this chapter to ensure compliance with the
requirements contained herein. Any such inspections shall be coordinated
with the respective offices.
A.
It shall be the responsibility of the owner of each dwelling unit
and structure covered by this chapter to maintain all smoke detectors
and/or heat detectors in operational order according to the manufacturer's
instructions.
B.
The owner of every multiple dwelling shall keep such records related
to the installation and maintenance of smoke-detecting devices available
for inspection by the Code Enforcement Officer or his representative.
During the annual fire inspections of each property occupied
as a multiple dwelling, pursuant to the Uniform Fire Prevention and
Building Code, the owner of each such property or building shall provide
the Code Enforcement Officer's office with a certificate stating
that all required maintenance has been performed and that all smoke
detectors are in operational condition.
