[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Lower Allen 6-10-1985(Art. 117 of the 1985 Code of Ordinances). Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Board of Commissioners of the Township shall maintain and equip a Township Police Department and shall, subject to applicable civil service provisions, appoint and fix the number, rank and compensation of its members.
The Board of Commissioners shall prescribe all necessary rules and regulations for the organization of the Township Police Department.
[Amended 11-10-1997 by Ord. No. 97-16]
The powers and duties of the Police Department are prescribed in various laws, to include but not be limited to the First Class Township Code (53 P.S. §§ 56403 and 56404), the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure (Title 34), the Pennsylvania Crimes Code (Title 18) and the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code (Title 75). These powers and duties essentially permit the police to enforce and take action or arrest for the violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, the Vehicle Code, ordinances of Lower Allen Township and other statutes as passed by the legislature. Additional duties may be assigned to be performed by the Police Department by the Board of Commissioners of Lower Allen Township.
Members of the Police Department shall obey the orders of the Board of Commissioners or such other person or committee as may be designated by ordinance or resolution of the Board of Commissioners for such purposes.
