The office of Borough Clerk is hereby created, and the appointment of such Borough Clerk is hereby authorized.
The Mayor shall nominate and, with the advice and consent of Council, appoint such Borough Clerk. Such appointment shall be for a term of three years, which shall run from January 1 in the year of the original appointment. The Borough Clerk need not be a resident of the borough.
The Borough Clerk shall hold a Registered Municipal Clerk's certificate or obtain such certificate during the term of appointment. No person shall be reappointed as Borough Clerk unless he holds a Registered Municipal Clerk's certificate.
The Borough Clerk shall have tenure of office upon holding such position continuously for five years from the date of the original appointment. The Borough Clerk shall not acquire tenure of office unless such Clerk holds a Registered Municipal Clerk's certificate pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133.2.
