[HISTORY: Adopted by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of River Edge 9-19-1983 as Ord. No. 847 (§ 16-3.10 of the 1975 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]

A. 
An initial impound fee, as set forth in the Borough Fee Schedule, adopted by resolution of the Borough Council, on file in the office of the Borough Clerk, shall be imposed upon the registered owner or the operator of an unregistered vehicle at the time such vehicle is impounded.[1]

B. 
In the event that the vehicle is not removed by the first or second day, there shall be imposed a storage charge, as set forth in the Borough Fee Schedule, adopted by resolution of the Borough Council, on file in the office of the Borough Clerk, per day, commencing on the fifth day.[2]

C. 
All fees for towing, impounding and storage shall be paid at the Borough Hall by cash, money order, bank draft or certified check prior to the releasing of the impounded vehicle. All checks, drafts or money orders shall be made payable to the Borough of River Edge.
In the event that the vehicle shall be detained for more than two (2) days by the River Edge Police, storage charges shall be waived during the time the vehicle is actually being held for police business.
If an impounded vehicle is not removed within sixty (60) days, the Borough of River Edge, upon actual notice to the registered owner, or driver in the event of an unregistered vehicle, may sell the vehicle at public auction to satisfy all impounding and storage fees.
