[HISTORY: Adopted by the Township Committee of the Township

It shall be unlawful for any person or persons or corporation
to conduct any of the following kinds of business in the Township
of Riverside, in the County of Burlington and State of New Jersey,
without first obtaining a license as hereinafter provided:
A.Â
Any lumber or coal yard or store or place of business for the sale
of meats, groceries and provisions, dry goods and merchandise and
goods and chattels of every kind and description.
B.Â
Any tailoring store or place of business, or business or establishment
for cleaning, dyeing, altering or repairing garments and household
articles, and establishments, shops or places of business for repairing
boots and shoes.
C.Â
Restaurants.
D.Â
Places of business for the sale and distribution of motor fuel and
automobile accessories.
E.Â
Hair dressing, beauty shops and barbershops.
F.Â
Laundries.
All applications for license shall be in writing, signed by
the applicant and presented to the Collector of Taxes. Said application
shall give the name and residence of the applicant, the kind of business
to be conducted and the location of the place or places where said
business is to be conducted.
The Collector of Taxes shall issue to said applicant a license
upon payment of said fee, which shall be effective until the first
day of January next ensuing and may at the expiration thereof be renewed
for further period of one year upon the payment of the same license
fee. Said license shall be displayed in a conspicuous place in the
store or business place of the person to whom it was issued.
A.Â
The license fees to be paid hereunder, which are for the purpose
of revenue, shall be as follows: the fees for mercantile licenses
for stores for the sale of merchandise and other kinds of business,
as hereinbefore enumerated, shall be the sum of $75 per annum; and
when the renewal of said license is applied for, the renewal fee shall
be $25 per annum. The fees shall be due and payable by January 1 of
each year.

All license fees as herein provided shall be paid to the Collector
of Taxes of said Township and shall be retained by said Collector
of Taxes in the regular collector account and shall be turned over
to the Treasurer at the end of each month.

Such person or persons violating any of the provisions of this
chapter, during any year or part thereof, shall, upon conviction thereof,
be subject to one or more of the following: a fine not exceeding $2,000;
a term of imprisonment not exceeding 90 days; or a period of community
service not exceeding 90 days.
