All present police officers of the Township of Mount Joy, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (the "township"), and any and all persons who shall hereinafter be hired by the township as a police officer shall reside within the township or shall reside within ten (10) miles of the geographic (corporate) limits of the township.
No police officer of the township shall reside more than ten (10) miles beyond the geographic (corporate) limits of the township. The terms "reside" and "residence" as used in this Article are intended to designate the physical location of the police officer's house or other dwelling place as the relevant measuring point. Such house or dwelling place must be within ten (10) miles of the nearest border of the township. The ten-mile limitation shall mean an air mile, which shall be computed by measuring the straight line distance between two (2) points on a map.
It is the intent of this Article that all present police officers of the township and any and all persons who shall hereinafter be hired and employed by the township as a police officer shall be bona fide residents of the township or shall reside within ten (10) miles of the geographic (corporate) limits of the township. Such residency shall be established and maintained as the legal, full-time and exclusive residence of said police officers.
Any police officer who fails to comply with this Article shall be subject to immediate discharge and termination from his or her employment with the township.
