[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Nether Providence 2-11-1965 as Ord. No. 404. Amendments noted where applicable.]
The volunteer fire companies now in service in the Township of Nether Providence, namely, South Media Fire Company and Garden City Fire Company, shall together form the Fire Department of the Township of Nether Providence and shall hereafter be designated as "Nether Providence Fire Company No. 1" and "Nether Providence Fire Company No. 2," respectively.
For the purpose of fire protection and fire prevention, the Township of Nether Providence is hereby divided into two (2) separate fire districts, as follows:
A.
District I shall consist of all that area of the Township beginning at a point at Crum Creek on the former Herschel Smith property in direct line with Copples Lane, thence southwesterly along Copples Lane to Providence Road, thence south on Providence Road, thence along the northerly property line of the Leslie Lane homes to the intersection of West Rose Valley Road and Bickmore Drive, and thence northwesterly on West Rose Valley Road to Brookhaven Road.
B.
District II shall consist of all that area of the Township located south and west of District I.
[Amended 12-10-1992 by Ord. No. 581]
All fire protection including investigation as to the causes of fires within the area of District I shall be the primary responsibility of Nether Providence Fire Company No. 1; and all such activities within the area of District II shall be the primary responsibility of Nether Providence Fire Company No. 2.
[Amended 12-10-1992 by Ord. No. 581]
The fire companies shall prepare, and the Committee shall receive and transmit to the Commissioners of Nether Providence Township, a unified annual budget for the operation of the fire companies. Upon receipt of said budget, the Board of Commissioners may, in its discretion, appropriate Township funds to be paid directly to the fire companies in such amounts, at such times during the year and for such authorized fire protection purposes as the Board of Commissioners shall direct. Any Township funds so appropriated and paid shall be used by the fire companies for authorized and budgeted fire protection purposes and for no other use or purpose.
Promptly after close of each calendar year beginning with the year 1965, each fire company which has received Township funds during such year shall make its books and records available to the Township Auditor, who shall proceed to examine said books and records to determine whether Township funds have been used for the purpose appropriated and budgeted as aforesaid. The powers and duties of said Auditor in performing said audit shall be the same as prescribed for the auditing of Township accounts under the First Class Township Code.[1]

Editor's Note: See 53 P.S. § 550101 et seq.
[Amended 12-10-1992 as Ord. No. 581]
Administration of the Nether Providence Fire Department shall be vested in the Fire Committee. The Committee shall be composed of six persons, two persons as appointed by the Township Commissioners, two persons as appointed by the Executive Committee of Garden City and two persons as appointed by the Board of Directors of South Media. It is intended that, of the two persons appointed by each fire company, one will be conversant with the fire equipment and the other with the fire company's finances. The Committee shall be composed so that, in voting on any matters, which will constitute recommendations or positions of the Committee, each fire company shall have one vote and each of the representatives appointed by the Township shall have one vote, constituting a total of four votes, three of which shall be necessary to constitute a recommendation or a binding position of the Committee. The function of the Committee shall be to coordinate the matters of mutual concern between the Township and the fire companies. It shall form the exclusive liaison between the fire companies and the Township.
Nothing contained in this chapter shall be construed to repeal in whole or in part any existing ordinance of the Township relating to fire protection or fire prevention.
