As used herein, the following terms shall have the following meanings:
ACTIVE DUTY
Any member of the United States Armed Forces, who by order of the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America, has been required to temporarily leave the Township of South Fayette and/or greater Pittsburgh area to participate in military service. For the purposes of this definition, the term "active duty" shall include all support personnel, whether or not the same arc located in a combat zone.
DISCOUNT PERIOD
The period which ends on May 31, 2003.
MILITARY SERVICE
Participating in the United States Armed Forces, including the Merchant Marine.
Any owner of real property situated in the Township of South Fayette who is on active duty and participating in military service is hereby granted an extension of the deadline within which they must pay their Township real estate taxes. Property owners on active duty may pay their real estate taxes by December 15, 2003, at discount. Taxes paid after December 15, 2003, will be considered to be delinquent.
Any family member, representative or agent of the property owner serving on active duty may apply for this extension by furnishing a written request to the local Tax Collector. Said written request shall include the following information: name of property owner; address of property owner; mailing address of property owner; address of property located in the Township of South Fayette; block and lot number of the property located in the Township of South Fayette; branch of the United States Armed Forces in which the property owner is currently serving; and date the property owner was called for active duty. A copy of this request shall also be forwarded to the Township Manager. Upon receipt and verification of this information, the local Tax Collector will furnish a letter to the applicant notifying them whether this request for an extension has been accepted. If the request for an extension has not been accepted, then the regular deadlines as set forth in the Township's Real Estate Tax Ordinance[1] shall continue to apply.

The proper officials of the Township of South Fayette are hereby authorized and directed to do all things necessary to effectuate the purpose of this article.
