All grading shall be done as may be required to complete the streets and highways to the finished profiles and cross sections shown on the plans approved by town authority and to provide a finished cross section having the characteristics hereinafter stated, unless otherwise ordered by town authority pursuant to §§ 109-25 and 109-26 hereof.

The paved traveled way shall be 20 feet wide for local roads and 22 feet wide for collector roads unless otherwise approved by town authority, in which case it shall not be less than 16 feet in width. A wider pavement may be required by town authority at the time of approval of plans under § 109-3 hereof. The paved traveled way shall be located in the center of the right-of-way unless otherwise shown and approved on plans provided under §§ 109-3 and 109-4 hereof. Where a turnaround is required, the paved traveled way shall have a diameter of not less than 85 feet.

A crown of 3/8 inch per foot of width shall
be provided from the outside line of the shoulder to the center line
of the paved surface, except as modified by town authority.

Shoulders flush with the top of the curb or
paved integral swales shall be provided on each side of the paved
traveled way. Shoulders shall be a minimum of five feet in width,
or as determined by town authority, the shoulders shall be continued
to the property line and shall be located between the ditch and the
paved traveled way where ditches are provided. Where paved integral
swales or gutters are provided, shoulders shall be located outside
of and adjacent to the swales or gutters.

Ditches, paved integral swales or gutters, as
approved by town authority, shall be provided on each side of the
paved traveled way.
Ditches shall have a width of at least two feet
at the bottom and a bottom elevation at least 12 inches below the
crown of the finished pavement for grades of 5% and greater. Ditches
shall increase in depth, proportionate to grade, to a bottom elevation
of not less than 24 inches below the crown of finished pavement for
grades of 0.3% or less. Wider and deeper ditches may be required by
town authority where conditions make these minima inadequate. The
slope from the outside line of the shoulders to the inside bottom
line of the ditches shall be not less than one vertical to four horizontal,
and the slope from the outside bottom line of the ditch outward to
the natural surface shall not be steeper than one vertical to one
horizontal, except in ledge rock or where the nature of the soil requires
a flatter slope for stability. In ledge rock, the outside face of
ditches may be vertical unless otherwise ordered. All ditches shall
be uniformly graded and so discharged as to prevent standing or pooling
of water.

Paved integral swales and gutters shall have a minimum width of three feet and shall be constructed integral with and abutting the paved traveled way. The flow line of integral swales and gutters shall be at least 73/4 inches for a local road and 81/8 inches for a collector road, below the center-line elevation of the paved traveled way, and the integral swales and gutters shall follow the same general grade of the paved traveled way, except where modification is necessary to prevent standing or pooling of water. Paved integral swales and gutters shall be constructed in accordance with approved plans. Provided that compliance is achieved with §§ 109-9 and 109-19 hereof, the slope from the outside edge of shoulders adjacent to integral swales and gutters to the original ground surface shall be not greater than one vertical to two horizontal, except in rock cuts, where greater slopes may be allowed with appropriate documentation.
All shoulders, ditch bottoms and slopes of embankments,
ditches and cuts shall be neatly trimmed.
