No person shall discharge any firearms, guns, air-rifles, spring guns, or any gun so constructed as to discharge pellets by compressed air or compressed gas within the City limits, except that this article shall not apply to police officers who discharge firearms in the line of duty, any honor guard at a military funeral, any properly constructed range approved by the Chief of Police, nor any person commercially engaged in extermination, pest and rodent control who shall obtain annually a permit from the Chief of Police, provided that such persons may only use a firearm of .22 caliber or less in connection with their commercial business of extermination, pest and rodent control.
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be punishable by a fine not exceeding $250 or imprisonment in the County Jail of Ontario County for not more than 15 days, or both such fine and imprisonment. Each day on which any such violation continues shall constitute a separate offense.

The City of Canandaigua, by its City Council in its proprietary capacity, declares that it is necessary for the security, safety, protection and well-being of its employees, its property and individuals present thereupon, to place restrictions on the bearing and possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons and instruments by individuals while entering into and being present in the City Hall, Police Station, Fire Station, or Hurley Building.
No individual shall bear or have in his or her possession, either openly or concealed, any firearm, gun, explosive device or substance, lethal or debilitating chemical, gas or substance, or a weapon or dangerous or deadly instrument of any description, including, but not limited to a handgun, pistol, target pistol, revolver, rifle, shotgun, dangerous knife, dagger, dirk, razor, stiletto, or imitation pistol, while entering into or being present in the City Hall, Police Station, Fire Station, or Hurley Building.

This article shall not apply to any authorized peace officer or police officer, as defined in the New York State Criminal Procedure Law, or any other authorized official of the County, State or Federal Government.
Failure to comply with this article shall be punishable by confinement in the Ontario County Jail for a term not to exceed one year or by a fine not to exceed $1,000, or both.
